- Contestants must be enrolled at Western Oregon University
- The entered work should engage in or respond to subjects, themes, and issues relating to the natural world
- Entries must be written in English, original and unpublished.
- The writing may be in any genre: prose fiction or nonfiction, drama, poetry (a set of 3-8 poems is recommended). Essays on science and natural history are welcome, but the writing should be aimed at the general, non-specialist reader.
- Prose work should not exceed 4,000 words; poetry submissions should not exceed ten pages.
- Entries may be submitted between January 14 (Loie Bunse’s birthday) and March 1, 2025.
